BIOGRAPHY
Hugo Viana (b. 1973) and Alejandro Viana (b. 1976), studied Visual Arts at the School of Fine Arts of the University of Caldas (Manizales-Col.), in the Academy Superior Arts Bogotá (ASAB) of the District University Francisco José de Caldas (Bogotá D.C., Col.) and the School of San Carlos of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (Valencia, Spain).
Together, they have developed a collaborative artistic production, using several medias like drawing, painting, sculpture, multimedia installations and “in situ” spatial interventions, in others, to configure artworks with intimate, symbolic and anthropological remarkable components, that encourage a continuous reflection on the restricted or expanded categories within the aesthetic panorama of the contemporary visual arts, also a debate between the most primevals human being actions and the own meaning of contemporary art, in terms of cultural decipherment.
Their individual or collective participation, have been commendable inside national and international curatorial project platforms. Furthermore, as artist guests, their artworks have been exhibited and cataloged by cultural centers, galleries, museums and also included in public and private collections of Argentina, Peru, Colombia, Mexico, Cuba, United States, Sweden, Belgium, Germany, France, Italy and Spain, among others countries. Currently, the Viana brothers lives and works in Colombia.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Everything our artwork is a poetic gesture in fullness expansion inside the way of conscious dreams and creative reveries, a blurred trace of images reflecting our existence in the immanence of the world. Even so, with them we wish to capture a single instant of empathy: always intangible, ephemeral, changeable and eternal.
